Premiers retain Bill Elvy Memorial Trophy after beating Petone

Our Premiers continued their unbeaten run to start the season and broke a five year losing streak at Petone Rec after beating Petone 43-33 this afternoon.

In captain Isaac O'Connor's 50th Premier match for Marist St Pats, his forwards asserted dominance in the first half which set the platform for a higher scoring second spell.

After taking a narrow 16-14 lead into half time, the forwards came out firing with wave after wave of pressure that Petone just couldn't continue to repel. Second half tries to debutant Kerrod Foaese, Julian Tupai, O'Connor and Jeff To'omaga-Allen gave the Red Machine a 43-19 lead with eight minutes to play, with late consolation tries to Petone closing the margin on the scoreboard.

Premiers play Wainuiomata at Evans Bay Park next Saturday at 2pm
