After the excitement of the Swindale Shield success the Premiers delivered a flat performance against a spirited Petone team today.
Early play was encouraging with the team able to string together some good plays. But after two first half tries and a high stoppage count this was going to be a hard game to get back into.
To their credit the team lifted in the second and outscored their opponents 19-12 in the second stanza, but this wasn't enough to get a win.
The team will look forward to their first game on their Evans Bay home against Upper Hutt next weekend.
