Premiers consolidate second place with win over Johnsonville

In their first Premier match up since 2010 it was a tough battle between Marist St Pats and Johnsonville today. Played in front of a bumper crowd at Helston Park, both teams were keen to take bragging rights as a number of Johnsonville players have previously played in the Marist St Pats Senior 1 team.

The first half featured a number of missed opportunities for the Red Machine with the major talking point a disallowed try to Andrew Wells with the referee not seeing grounding.

The oranges at half time did wonders however with a No. 8 Pago Hainey storming to the line after just a couple of minutes to ignite the team. Despite a lopsided penalty count not being in their favour, superior set pieces and a strong performance from the forwards allowed MSP to get ascendency on the scoreboard with tries to Sam Scown and Sefo Setefano.

An excellent Andrew Wells try sealed the bonus point and 33-23 win with four minutes to play.
