Premier Women finish first round in equal first place

Our Premier Women have completed the Rebecca Liua'ana Trophy round in equal first place after a 38-21 win over Avalon at Fraser Park. To be confirmed, but we understand they miss out on the silverware by tie-breaker after finishing equal on competition points with Northern United and Oriental-Rongotai.

This is a momentous result for the side having lost only one game in the first round. We wish the team well for the second round which gets underway next week.

In the Swindale Shield, our Premier Men had a tough encounter with Avalon at Fraser Park. Despite controlling most of the possession and territory, the side struggled to get momentum perhaps owing to a raft of changes in personnel due to injuries in the squad. They scraped by with a 14-12 win. Congratulations to Tovio Apolo who played his 50th Premier game, earning his blazer. Tovio has been a stalwart of the club and will likely have played in another 100+ games for the Premier 2 and Internationals over the years.

Elsewhere, the Internationals remain unbeaten after three rounds following a 24-5 win over Paremata-Plimmerton.
